OHE is a system of electrification that is used to transmit electrical energy to electric engine/locomotives. Further these electric energy converted into mechanical energy by locomotives/engine. The full form of OHE is ”Overhead Equipment” or ”Overhead Electrification”.
That’s why we can say, electric Engine can be easily maintained rather than the diesel engine.
WHAT IS THE PRINCIPAL OF OHE?
Just as our veins carry blood to keep our heart functioning, similarly the Overhead Equipment (OHE) is responsible for supplying electricity to the electric locomotive.
At the substation, power supply is received in three phases, which is then transferred to a single phase 25kv supply through a transformer. This supply is further transmitted to the electric engines with the help of a pantograph. To ensure smooth operation of the electric locomotive, Substation Power (SSP) is installed every 10 to 15 km, and Sectioning Post (SP) is installed every 40 km.
The electricity supply to OHE is received through TSS, Indian Railways brings cases for three phase supply by a private company, this three phase supply is converted into single phase 25 KV through the transformer fitted in TSS.
Neutral section is stabilized near the TSS or SP. It works to divide two difference phases.
